Beccase Bakery bustles with customers and bursts its glass cabinets with bountiful baked beauties.
Our experience
Both the restaurant and patisserie arms of Beccase recently relocated to Sydney CBD’s Westfield shopping centre. Cleverly positioned near the upwards escalator, Beccase Bakery bustles with customers and bursts its glass cabinets with bountiful baked beauties. On a recent business trip to Sydney, Becasse provided the perfect energy-booster for MoMo & Coco in the form of a few little irresistibles.
First to be sampled was a Raspberry and Pistachio Friand ($5). In vivid tones of light green, this little irresistible was suprisingly densely formed, lightly flavoured, dusted with icing sugar and spruced up by three tart raspberries.
The second irresistible was the naughty decadent St Honore Choux Pastry ($7). Custard in small doses is always a pleasure. But, custard encased in little round balls of choux pastry, caramelised with honey and sugar, and engulfed with a generous twirly tower of cream was simply beyond pleasure… hmmmmm… irresistible…
And to finish our little afternoon tea session, MoMo & Coco indulged in a petite classical Opera Cake ($4.50). Exquisite layers of coffee-soaked almond sponge, espresso buttercream and chocolate ganache, topped off with a white chocolate decoration depicting musical notations and an extra swirl of coffee cream. MoMo & Coco do however wish that there had been more layers.
Our verdict
The food court of a shopping centre is the place to find cheap fast food, sometimes good, sometimes bad, mostly just to refill in between shopping. With an astonishing variety of quality outlets, the food hall at Level 5 on Sydney’s Westfield Shopping Centree is therefore ground-breaking. Becasse Bakery doesn’t embark on avant-garde creations, nor does it peddle off the same-old muffin grenades and slice slabs as other cafes and bakeries. It’s just right. MoMo & Coco’s short and sweet intermission with Becasse’s irresistibles gave us the perfect incentive to walk it all off with just a bit more shopping, hehe.
